UniverSoul Language

“ I think… if it is true that
there are as many minds as there
are heads, then there are as many
kinds of love as there are hearts.”
― Leo Tolstoy, Anna Karenina

Language is as ambiguous as the world we live in. Residing in China for several months, I’ve discovered a marveling truth about the connectivity of our souls. Given no prior doctrine to transcribe language to a given people, a smile, yes a smile is surely the gateway to a universe of love and understanding. As a foreigner who was struggling to order a meager meal of rice and chicken chunks, the smile that I illuminated while ordering always triggered a sense of care, compassion and slight humor to the workers. Glowing distinctly between awkward dialogue and the heralding screams of starvation erupting from my stomach, is the silver lining that a smile vibrates so elegantly to signify that we are all one. Harmony is at the core of peace because when two spirits are kindred there is no better ballad played in the universe.

SmilingBuddah” Buddha, Buddha, Buddha, Buddha, smiling everywhere.”

187Cradled in Seoul is the Gyeongbok Palace. A sprawling collection of ancient temples, pavilions, gardens and art work, encompassing the timeless beauty of the Josen Dynasty. I ran across these playful spirits as I was casting my eyes on the final bits of the palace, before departing for my flight back to China. Swaying gracefully in the cool summer breeze, I was captivated by their elegant attire, reminiscent of the traditional garb worn during the times of the Palace’s inception.

This showmanship of love is an art in and of itself. Every smile is different from the next. Some smiles show pearly white teeth that may blind the unprepared. Others may reveal scars etched upon the surface of one’s lips from previous battles with life, however, that internal glow still sneaks through the crevices. A jubilant smile can jolt the life of a child into some and their cheeks can balloon up, seemingly to venture them into the heavens. It’s a masterpiece that we all have within us and one that I truly believe should be shared. The world is a museum, life is the artist and we are the art.

  1. A smile can go a long way, and along the way some people fail to see that. It is something that generates tranquility and harmony upon seconds. Keep smiling 🙂
